What Can I Help You With?
-
Working with authors, small businesses, filmmakers, self-publishers, and other clients, I can help you define your research question, refine your project scope, identify relevant primary and secondary resources, and create a plan for remote and in-person consultation. I can conduct systematic and expert searches of online databases, digitized, microfilm and print periodicals, and specialized print reference sources to surface results and evidence not available on the web or through your local libraries.
Rates start at $70/hr, plus travel and reproduction costs.

Working primarily at the Wisconsin Historical Society, I can retrieve and consult archives collections on your behalf. Whether you are searching for a specific document or you wish to gain an overview of an entire collection, I can work efficiently and carefully to help you gain access to the materials you need. I provide high-quality color scans, organized and referenced clearly to streamline your workflow and ensure accurate citation.
Prices start at $0.25/page for document scanning. Researchers may wish to request a preliminary consult before ordering scans: I will retrieve archival boxes and provide sample scans and an approximate page count for $20/archival box.
Make your scans full-text searchable! Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and/or transcription of handwritten documents is available for an additional fee per page.

I offer custom online tutorials and one-on-one support for learning and using citation management systems and project management integrations such as Zotero, Endnote, Mendeley, Papers, Obsidian, Asana and Notion. For a modest investment at the beginning of your undergraduate thesis, dissertation or other research project, you can save dozens of hours of citation and project management frustration.
I can also provide “live” online research guidance consultations to help you define your research question, introduce you to key resources for your project, teach you to navigate and search specialist archival catalogues and finding aids, and show you the power of genealogy tools and software such as Ancestry, FamilySearch, FamilyEcho, Gramps, and others.
